Achilleus 3D
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
This policy explains how the Achilleus 3D app (for iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac) handles information. The app is made by ETNAPPS (“we”, “us”). If you have any question about it, write to us at info@etnapps.com.
The short version
- You don’t need an account. There are no ads, and we never sell or rent your data.
- Your markers, drawings, tracks, photos, plans and settings are stored on your device. We don’t receive them.
- To show maps, elevation, weather and driving routes, the app requests them from the providers listed below, so those providers see which area you are looking at.
- The team network connects your devices directly (one of them runs the server). It does not go through us.
- The app may send anonymous usage statistics and, if you allow it, crash reports through Unity, the engine the app is built with.

1. Data stored on your device
Everything you create in the app is saved in the app’s storage on your device. It is not uploaded to us. This includes:
- markers, their names, symbols, tags, notes and the rings and sectors around them;
- drawings, measurements, line-of-sight, viewshed and slope results;
- operation plans, tactical tasks and control measures;
- GPS tracks you record;
- photos you add to markers;
- adjust-fire targets and rounds, which are kept only while the app runs;
- map tiles and elevation data the app has downloaded, so they can be used offline;
- your settings, such as units, theme and interface size.
Your operating system may include the app’s data in your device backups (for example iCloud or Google backups), according to your device settings.
2. Your location
With your permission, the app uses your device’s location (GPS) to:
- show your position on the map and give coordinates and elevation;
- record GPS tracks, which continue while the screen is off or the app is in the background, until you stop recording;
- guide you with Walk to (this works offline) and Drive (see driving directions below);
- use your position as the observer in Adjust fire, when you choose My GPS.
We never receive your location. It leaves your device only in these cases:
- when you ask for driving directions, your starting point and the destination are sent to the routing service;
- when you turn on Share my position in the team network, which is off by default, your position is sent to the people connected to your network;
- when you share or export a location yourself.
You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings. The app keeps working with the map cross and markers.
3. Camera and photos
If you allow it, the app uses the camera to take photos for your markers, and your photo library to add existing photos to markers and to save photos, QR codes and symbols there. The photos are stored with your markers on your device. They are not uploaded and are not sent over the team network.
4. Online services the app uses
Some features need data from online services. When the app requests it, the service receives the request and, as with any internet request, your device’s IP address and basic technical information (such as the app and system version). The table shows what each request contains.
| Feature | Provider | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Map imagery (the map you choose) | Google (Google Maps), Microsoft (Bing Maps), Esri (ArcGIS), OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap | The map tiles needed for the area on your screen, which reveal the general area you are viewing |
| Custom map sources | The server you enter yourself | The map tiles needed for the area on your screen |
| Elevation, 3D terrain, line of sight | Mapbox | The elevation tiles needed for the area you are viewing or analysing |
| Driving directions (Drive) | openrouteservice (HeiGIT) | The start and destination coordinates of the route you ask for |
| Weather | OpenWeather | The coordinates of the map centre, when you open the weather panel |
| Weather station data | ETNAPPS (our web host) | Nothing about you. The app only downloads the station’s readings, and our host’s logs may record your IP address |
These providers handle the requests under their own privacy policies: Google, Microsoft, Esri, OpenStreetMap Foundation, OpenTopoMap, Mapbox, HeiGIT (openrouteservice), OpenWeather.
Maps you have downloaded for offline use, and offline map files you import, are used without contacting these services.
5. The team network
The team network lets people work on a shared map. One device starts the server, and the others connect to it by its address, on a local network or over the internet. The server and its saved data live on the device that started it. None of this passes through ETNAPPS, and we cannot see it.
The people connected to your network receive:
- the name you enter to join;
- the marker layers, drawings and operation plans you switch on for sharing. Items hidden on your own map are not sent;
- your live position, only if you turn on Share my position (off by default);
- chat messages, corrections you send to the team, and the network’s working data such as target status, assignments and fire requests.
6. Sharing, exporting and copying
When you share a location (link or QR code), export files (such as GPX or KML), copy text or send a problem report, the app hands the data to the app or person you choose through your device’s share options. What happens next is up to that app or person. Links made by the app start with achilleus:// and contain the shared location and, if you choose, the marker’s name, symbol and tag.
7. Usage statistics, crash and problem reports
Usage statistics (Unity Analytics)
The app is built with the Unity engine, and its analytics service may collect anonymous, aggregated statistics about how the app is used. This can include when the app is opened and for how long, the app version, the device model, the operating system, the language, and the approximate country (from the IP address). It is tied to a random identifier that Unity creates for the installation, not to your name. It does not include your location, markers, maps or anything you create. We use these statistics only to understand how the app is used and to improve it. Unity processes this data under its privacy policy.
Crash reports
If Send crash reports is on (Settings › Privacy & Diagnostics), a report may be sent through Unity’s crash reporting service when the app crashes. The report contains the app version, the device model and system, and technical details of the error. It never includes your maps, markers, tracks or position. You can turn this off at any time.
Problem reports
Report a problem prepares a text file with the app version, the device model and system, memory and screen size, and the last lines of the app’s log. You can see what a report contains under What is in a report in Settings. Nothing is sent automatically: you choose whether and where to send it. If you send it to us, we use it only to investigate the problem and delete it when it is no longer needed.
8. Permissions
| Permission | Used for | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Location (while using the app) | Your position, coordinates, tracks, Walk to, Drive, Adjust fire from GPS | Everything else works; use the map cross and markers |
| Location in the background | Continuing a GPS track you are recording while the screen is off | Tracks record only while the app is open |
| Camera | Taking photos for markers | You can still add photos from your library |
| Photos | Adding photos to markers; saving photos, QR codes and symbols | Photos can’t be added from or saved to the library |
| Network | Maps, elevation, weather, routes and the team network | Downloaded and offline maps still work |
You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings.
9. Purchases and ratings
The app is bought and updated through the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Mac App Store. Payments are handled by those stores; we never receive your payment details. When the app asks whether you’d like to rate it, it uses the store’s own rating prompt, and your rating goes to the store, not to us.
10. What we don’t do
- We don’t require an account or collect your name, e-mail or phone number. Your name on the team network goes only to the people you connect with.
- We don’t show ads or use advertising identifiers, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
- We don’t sell, rent or trade any data.
- We don’t run a server that stores your maps, markers, tracks or location.
11. How long data is kept
Data on your device stays there until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. The team network’s data is kept on the device that runs the server until it is cleared there. Problem reports you send us are deleted once the problem is resolved. Usage statistics and crash reports are kept by Unity according to its policies.
12. Security
Your data is protected by your device’s own security, such as its passcode and encryption. Most requests to online services, such as maps, elevation and routes, use secure (HTTPS) connections. As noted above, the team network is not end-to-end encrypted. For sensitive work, use it only on networks you trust.
13. Children
Achilleus 3D is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU General Data Protection Regulation or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to ask about, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data about you. Because the app keeps your data on your device, you can see, change and delete it directly in the app. For anything we may hold, such as a problem report you sent us, write to info@etnapps.com and we will reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.
15. Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we will also tell you in the app or in the release notes.
